After graduating from Ohio State University, Dr. William A. Evanko enrolled at Case Western Reserve University School of Dentistry where he discovered his desire to specialize in oral surgery. He served a two year internship at NAS Memphis Naval Hospital and a three year oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. before opening his Medina office in July 1976. As his practice continued to grow, Dr. Evanko was joined by Dr. Richard M. Benninger, D.D.S. in 1987 and in 2004 by Dr. Gary R. Schween, D.D.S. Visiting the office of Drs. Drs. Evanko, Benninger, and Schween are dentists specializing in oral and maxillofacial surgery. We perform intra-oral surgery (inside the mouth) in addition to facial, reconstructive, corrective jaw, laser, and trauma surgery. We place dental implants to replace missing teeth, remove wisdom teeth, and treat pathology of the head and neck region. Some of our services are provided through the hospital, although the majority of our surgery is performed in our office. We use state of the art equipment and techniques to provide you with the most advanced surgical procedures. An important part of our practice is that we administer general anesthesia in our office for our procedures.

Our offices are staffed by three very competent surgeons who have completed an internship and a three to four year residency program after graduation first from college and then from dental school. We're assisted by our surgical staff, anesthesia staff, and our clerical staff, all dedicated to providing our patients with the very best we have to offer.

Most of our patients are referrals from their dentists, physicians, or other specialists who feel they need our services, but we do welcome patients without a referral as well. Their first visit to our office will be a consultation visit where we will perform an examination and explain their diagnosis and treatment options. Many of our treatments are covered by our patients' dental or medical insurance and our well trained staff is always available to help with insurance questions and submitting claims. For those without insurance coverage, we accept Visa, MasterCard, and Discover in addition to providing a choice of two payment plans.

Your mouth is one of your body's most important early warning systems. We encourage everyone to do an oral cancer self-exam once a month by examining their mouths for reddish or whitish patches, any sore that fails to heal and bleeds easily, or a lump or thickening on the tissues inside the mouth. These indicators, as well as chronic sore throat, hoarseness, or difficulty in chewing or swallowing should be followed by a call to our office for an exam by one of our surgeons to establish a diagnosis and an appropriate treatment plan. Early treatment can be the key to complete recovery.
