Strongsville resident Nancy Nebenzahl, OTR/L, CHT, has been specializing in treating hand and upper extremity injuries since 1980. Knowing the benefits of hands-on treatment, Nancy founded Hand Therapy Specialists in January 2002 to provide local residents with the best possible care by experienced therapists who take a personal interest in the well-being of their patients. We stopped by Hand Therapy Specialists recently, and listened as Nancy provided this overview of her practice;
Hand Therapy Specialists offers experienced individual care for the hand and upper extremities. We treat chronic and acute conditions, such as shoulder and hand injuries ranging from rotator cuff tendinitis to humeral fractures, elbow injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, tendon injuries, and fractures of the wrist, hands, and fingers. We also perform post-operative rehabilitation providing wound management, suture removal, and scar massage. In addition, we also provide custom splint fabrication for those needing additional temporary support after having their cast removed.
Our custom splints are fabricated to fit from a low temperature plastic. We make everything from elbow splints to wrist, hand, and finger splints. After performing an initial evaluation to determine how your injury is healing, the range of motion you have, and your strength, we fabricate the splint and will teach you how and when to use it. If appropriate, we show you exercises designed to help you heal faster, regain your range of motion, and rebuild your strength as soon as possible. We'll educate you about your injury, explain how you can improve your condition, and provide you with the tools.
Most of our patients are referred to us by a specialist, but we also receive referrals from primary care physicians. We're Workers' Comp and Medicare certified, and we work with most insurance companies in this area. To have your treatment covered by your insurance, your insurance company will insist on a doctor's prescription, although our services are available without one. Usually, your family doctor will be the first to detect the onset of tendinitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, and other problems, and many of these cases are then referred to a specialist for treatment. Frequently, some of these conditions can be referred directly from your family doctor and treated much more successfully through therapy, resulting in a much shorter healing time with considerably less pain and suffering.
At Hand Therapy Specialists, your condition is always evaluated and your therapy performed by an Occupational Therapist Registered/Licensed (OTR/L) who is also a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT). We feel very privileged knowing that we can play a direct role in helping your regain the use of your hand or your arm, and return to doing the things you want to do again.
Hand Therapy Specialists are certified professionals dedicated to helping you get back to what you'd rather be doing, as soon as possible. Call Hand Therapy Specialists today and don't forget to tell them The Advocate sent you!
