Holiday Retirement, founded in 1971 by Bill Colson in Salem, Oregon, is the epitome of the All-American success story. As his mother neared retirement age, Bill wanted her to be able to live in a gracious, comfortable setting without the normal trappings of nursing homes and hospitals, but was unable to locate any facilities that would serve this need. He decided that the only way she would be able to live in a setting of this nature would be to build one for her. Bill began to build what he envisioned and his dream took shape. The concept of gracious, home-like retirement communities began to grow, and although financing was tough during those early years, Holiday Retirement began to replicate itself time and time again. Each apartment also contains a kitchenette complete with counter, sink, cupboards, and a refrigerator/freezer to enable you to enjoy a comfortable meal right in your home.
Each unit includes carpeting and draperies, paid utilities, pre-wired TV hookups with free cable, individually controlled heat and air conditioning, emergency pull cords, 24-hour security, and smoke alarms. As you walk throughout the building, you'll find our walls decorated with over 400 paintings in varied styles. It's like walking through an art gallery every day, and there a many places where you can sit, relax, and just enjoy the paintings.
We strive to provide a busy social calendar. We have a wonderful activity director to make sure there's always something to do, and we have our own activity bus to take you shopping, to doctor appointments, or other activities. You can take advantage of our exercise programs, attend movies and plays, and go to baseball games. You can play cards, bingo, chess, and billiards, or even take the activity bus to the senior center.
We have live-in managers who are on duty twenty-four hours a day. When you need help or have a concern, you'll have the peace of mind that comes with knowing there's someone here you know and trust. In addition, we have a unique travel plan where you can stay for one week at a time at any of our 300 facilities in the United States at no additional cost to you.
All of these features are included in one monthly price with absolutely no buy-in fees or long term leases. All that's required is one month's security deposit, and then you pay your monthly rent. Your contract is cancelable with a one month written notice and that's the extent of your responsibility.
